Connectivity in real time

The CPX-AP-I remote I/O system from Festo is designed to easily integrate various I/O modules and (even existing) valve terminals with the most important PLC systems via the most common field buses. As a result, fewer components require a fieldbus module. Based on the innovative AP system communication from Festo, real-time Ethernet communication between the workpiece and the PLC is possible and the data supply is guaranteed. With these new CPX modules, Festo responds to the trend of modular construction that allows machine builders to easily adapt or expand existing machines and installations for more functionality and  diagnostics.

The CPX-AP-I can do it

Up to 500 modules in line, star and tree topology can be connected to standard bus systems to create an impressive automation platform. Modules can be interconnected via a cable with a maximum length of 50 m. Other features include the easy integration and parameterisation of IO-Link  components, an internal web server, the possibility to connect to the IoT gateway and the many new Festo components that can be connected to this AP bus. Modules and functions can be set up via the Festo Automation Suite for seamless system communication. The bus cycle time is only 250 μs, the data rate up to 200 Mbaud and up to 2 kByte of I/O process data are possible. Ideal for fast and synchronous processes! The CPX-AP-I also remains practical in use thanks to its low weight and minimum installation space requirement.

The availability of machines and plants is a basic requirement for productivity. In order to minimize unplanned downtimes, it is necessary to detect the sources of error at an early stage. This is exactly where SIPLUS CMS Condition Monitoring Systems come in: they continuously monitor the condition of mechanical components of your machines – even throughout the entire plant. SIPLUS CMS therefore represents an important step toward the digital factory, where all the players including machines, products and people along the value chain will be networked. SIPLUS CMS working together with MindSphere – the cloud-based, open IoT operating system from Siemens – opens up completely new possibilities. The powerful cloud platform is designed for analyzing large quantities of data and enables machine parks all over the world to be monitored for service purposes in order to reduce their downtimes.

The modular station communicates with a PROFINET controller, e.g., a distributed control system, via a bus coupler. As an option, up to eight PROFIBUS PA segments can be connected to the individual proxy outlets in a compact way. To ensure the individual segments are immune to interference, appropriate shield connection technology is available.
