Phoenix - Functional expansion of PLCnext controllers with a left-side safety module

An efficient solution for distributed safety applications

The AXC F XT SPLC 1000 - SPLC 1000 for short - has been developed as a dedicated safety controller that is primarily used in a distributed safety system. The new module uses the black channel principle to communicate with other Profisafe devices. This safety controller can be seamlessly integrated into the PLCnext-Technology open ecosystem.

Use to the highest safety level

The SPLC 1000 is a full-fledged safety controller that meets the highest safety level (SIL 3 and PL e respectively). The SPLC contains two separate and distinct processors based on the ARM Cortex M4 architecture. The SPLC 1000 is ideally suited for the implementation of smaller distributed applications. The SPLC 1000 can operate up to 32 Profisafe devices.

Simultaneous execution of different communication paths

Although the computational intensity is decreasing in a distributed application, it is becoming increasingly important to manage additional communication paths. This is the main reason why the SPLC 1000 supports Profisafe. The SPLC can simultaneously assume both the role of Profisafe controller (F-Host) and F-Device.

Simpler programming with one unified engineering tool

Due to the small width of 45 mm for the SPLC 1000, in combination with the AXC F 2152 you have a full-fledged safety control system only 90 mm wide. Moreover, the whole is fully programmable with one programming package PLCnext Engineer. Code for the AXC F 2152 can be programmed both in IEC 61131-3 and in a higher programming language. In addition, we use the same tool to also build the safety software from standard safety blocks or in Safe-C. The safety and control software are in one project.

The availability of machines and plants is a basic requirement for productivity. In order to minimize unplanned downtimes, it is necessary to detect the sources of error at an early stage. This is exactly where SIPLUS CMS Condition Monitoring Systems come in: they continuously monitor the condition of mechanical components of your machines – even throughout the entire plant. SIPLUS CMS therefore represents an important step toward the digital factory, where all the players including machines, products and people along the value chain will be networked. SIPLUS CMS working together with MindSphere – the cloud-based, open IoT operating system from Siemens – opens up completely new possibilities. The powerful cloud platform is designed for analyzing large quantities of data and enables machine parks all over the world to be monitored for service purposes in order to reduce their downtimes.

The modular station communicates with a PROFINET controller, e.g., a distributed control system, via a bus coupler. As an option, up to eight PROFIBUS PA segments can be connected to the individual proxy outlets in a compact way. To ensure the individual segments are immune to interference, appropriate shield connection technology is available.
