PSTX - advanced soft start solution

Softstarters are welcome guests in industrial environments where motors are used to keep pumps, compressors, fans, etc. running. Here, they provide a smooth start and stop of the motor so that the connected equipment as well as the piping behind it are not subjected to unnecessary mechanical stress. With the PSTX, ABB offers a complete motor protection system that compensates for irregularities in the load and the grid. This softstarter has several application-specific functions, including torque control and a pump cleaning function. The built-in bypass also saves installation time and avoids unnecessary space usage.

The PSTX series of softstarters combines years of research and product development with extensive knowledge of application-specific requirements. PSTX is the latest innovation in motor control and protection and offers a lot of new functionality for improved availability for every motor start application.

Key advantages:

  • Improved motor reliability
  • More efficient installation
  • Higher productivity

Key features:

  • Three-phase controlled
  • Rated voltage: 208 - 690 V AC
  • Wide range power supply voltage: 100-250 V, 50/60 Hz

A complete story: Components, services and solutions
We have proven our expertise in this area: Since the early 1960s, we have provided sensor solutions for many applications in logistics, packaging technology, mechanical engineering and mechatronics, among others. In many cases, an important role is played by safety components such as light curtains, access guarding devices, safety laser scanners, safety switches, controllers and relays. We currently offer, for example, the most innovative laser scanners with e.g. Profisafe interface and monitoring of several safety fields at the same time, easily parameterisable and high system reliability even in dusty environments!

Component shortage strengthens itsme’s connection with Rensen
Climate control is in hot demand, as they experience every day at Rensen, specialist in measurement and control technology for building automation. Despite continued price increases, sales and execution are under pressure. The component shortage that emerged last year only increases the challenge of completing projects on time. itsme supports this by monitoring delivery times from the start of a project, finding alternatives if necessary and optimising inventory management. “I’m here almost every week now.”

Coating specialist Alural makes its production more sustainable with Siemens
Installing a powder coating and anodisation system that is not only more efficient, but also far more sustainable: that was the aim of the FOX or ‘Flash Oxidation’ project at the Lummen-based aluminium coater Alural. Siemens partners Breemes and IE Tech took care of supplying energy to the new installation using a Sivacon S4 power distribution board. Thanks to strong partnerships, the project was practically flawless.

    Compressed air: saving and electrifying
Compressed air is ‘expensive energy’, especially if an installation has a lot of leaks. However, companies often pay little attention to compressed air as an expense and source of CO2 emissions. From a finance and CSR perspective, this means that they’re missing opportunities. Grinding disc manufacturer Saint-Gobain Abrasives took up the gauntlet and had itsme perform an ultrasonic test. This resulted in an overview of leaks and areas of potential savings. The company has already fixed most of the leaks and is now, once again with itsme, looking into electrifying certain drives. That will mean less wear, but moreover reduced costs, since electricity is cheaper than air.
