Dehn safety equipment for people and installations

The DEHN Safety Equipment range offers an extensive programme of safety devices, both for persons and for installations, for all work on electrical installations, both under tension as well as disconnected. The range includes PPE, switch sticks, earthing and short-circuiting systems, voltage detectors, fuse rods, etc.

Working in and on electrical installations can be life-threatening. That is why the following 5 safety rules must always be respected.

The five safety rules at a glance

1.    Disconnect completely
This means that the electrical installation must be disconnected from live parts on all poles.

2.    Secure against re-connection

Prevent the accidental reconnection of an installation during work. This can be done by replacing the fuses in the low-voltage grid with lockable lock-out devices. Interlocking devices to protect the workplace from being switched on again. The components are marked with the symbol "Do not close the circuit".

3.    Verify that the installation is dead
Use a suitable measuring / test equipment such as a voltage detector to verify on all poles that the installation is dead. Check the correct function of the voltage detector prior to using it. Capacitive voltage detector for checking all poles of medium-voltage installations up to 36 kV, including self-test of all live parts up to the test pin.

4.    Carry out earthing and short-circuiting
If the installation is dead, connect the cables and the earthing system with short-circuit-proof earthing and short-circuiting devices. Important: The relevant parts must be earthed before they are short-circuited! Earthing and short-circuiting devices with crimped cable lug for earthing and short-circuiting electrical installations at the workplace. Configurable online via the earthing and short-circuiting configurator.

5.    Provide protection against adjacent live parts
According to the five safety rules, adjacent parts are parts located in the vicinity zone. If parts of an electrical installation in the vicinity zone of the work location cannot be disconnected, additional precautions must be taken before work starts. In this case use insulating protective shutters or covering material as protection against accidental contact. Isolating shutters for protection against accidental contact with live parts of an installation at the workplace.

DEHN passive arc protection DEHNcare

Arcs faults are often caused by mistakes made when working on the switchgear or by contamination or foreign objects (e.g. forgotten tools, vermin ...).

An arc protection system provides the necessary safety to protect people effectively on the one hand and to optimise the availability of the switchgear and design it in accordance with valid regulations on the other hand.

DEHNcare offers reliable personal protective equipment (PPE) with an ATPV of up to 37.2cal/cm², maximum protection and perfect comfort.

Vicoma - Virtual Reality Actually Delivers Lighting Benefits
A lighting plan may look nice on paper or screen, but ultimately what counts is what the lighting does in reality. Virtual reality can help to get a good idea of this in advance. Consultant Vicoma and lighting expert itsme proved it in a project for the Royal Netherlands Navy. "They knew within 7 minutes: ‘That’s how we want it’." Vicoma is an independent consultancy and engineering firm with five offices, including one in Velsen-Noord (60 employees). Christian Klaver has been working there for two years now as Electrical & Instrumentation team leader. For a lighting project at the Royal Netherlands Navy in Den Helder, he brought in itsme to design the lighting plan. In doing so, he worked mainly with Ruud Adriaansen, team leader of the Lighting Design Center at itsme.
