New Halogen-Free Cables from Kabelwerk EUPEN AG
Innovation for Low-Voltage Connections
Kabelwerk EUPEN AG is expanding its range of halogen-free cables with the new cable families EXGB Cca-s1,d2,a1 and EAXeGB Cca-s1,d2,a1. These cables fully comply with the recently revised NBN HD 603-5A standard (2023) and the updated technical regulations C1/107 from Synergrid, published at the end of August 2024.
Key Changes in the Technical Regulations
The updated version of technical regulation C1/107, published by Synergrid, serves as the basis for all low-voltage connections to the energy distribution network (DNB) in Belgium. The connection cable acts as the essential link between the street connection and the metering device.Approved cable types remain EXVB / EAXeVB for underground applications and BXB / BAXB for overhead installations.
Mandatory Use of Halogen-Free Cables
With the introduction of the new AREI regulations on June 1, 2020, the use of halogen-free cables (Euroclass Cca-s1,a1) has become mandatory for escape routes in buildings (such as stairwells and corridors) and for publicly accessible spaces with a capacity of at least 50 people, such as seminar rooms, sports halls, and auditoriums. As a result, the EXGB and EAXeGB cables, in compliance with the NBN HD 603-5A standard, are now also suitable for low-voltage connections.
Features of the New Cables
The EXGB Cca-s1,d2,a1 and EAXeGB Cca-s1,d2,a1 cables, approved by the Belgian DNBs and certified by CEBEC, can be installed both indoors and outdoors. They are suitable for open-air installation, with or without protection, and can be laid in the ground, in ducts, or in concrete.
Compared to the existing halogen-free cables in the “XGB” series, the new “EXGB” and “EAXeGB” cables offer significant improvements:
- Reinforced black outer sheath
- Enhanced water resistance
- Increased resistance to mechanical stress
