Rittal - HUMMEL Cable Glands
If you want to protect your components effectively against external influences, a strong enclosure alone is not enough. There are always cables running to and from your equipment, which is why you need a cable gland in addition to the enclosure for a complete solution for protecting your equipment. This ensures that the end of the cable running to your enclosure is securely fastened. After all, your installation is only as good as its weakest link.
The vulnerable spot
Whether it's power cables or network cabling, various cables will have to enter your enclosure somewhere. This opening is the Achilles heel of your enclosure system. A cable gland offers the solution. It ensures a perfect seal for your enclosure, protecting it from external influences such as moisture, dust or radiation (EMC). In addition, a cable gland can provide strain relief for your cables under dynamic loads. Your cables, system and cabinet remain undamaged and continue to function properly.
Every situation is different
The environments in which enclosures are installed are becoming increasingly complex. A cable gland used along the motorway will probably have to meet different requirements than a gland in a train. Whereas in the past a few types were sufficient, hundreds of types and sizes are now needed to meet the specific requirements of a particular environment. Glands are basically made of four materials: plastic, brass, nickel-plated brass or stainless steel. Hundreds of variants are based on these, each suitable for a specific situation. For example, “Hygienic Design” glands are suitable for the food industry because dirt cannot adhere to them, and there are EMC glands that offer protection against electromagnetic interference.
Because there is such a wide range of swivels available, it is wise to seek advice on which swivel is best suited to your specific situation.
