The Fluke 87-V: ideal for accurate measurements at variable speed drives and in industrial environments
Technological advances now allow accurate electrical measurements to be taken during installation and maintenance using a digital multimeter (DMM), allowing technicians to diagnose problems that lead to premature failure.
Fluke 87-V digital multimeter
Historically, no digital multimeter could accurately measure AC drives until Fluke released the new version, the 87-V.
The Fluke 87-V has all the features you would expect from a multimeter. It measures voltages up to 1000 V AC and DC and current up to 10 A AC and DC. In addition, it can measure resistance (up to 50 MOhm), capacitance (up to 10000 µF) and frequency up to 200 kHz. Also notable is the large clear display that allows you to easily read the measured values. However, the most innovative feature of the Fluke 87-V is its ability to measure frequency-controlled motors. With an "ordinary" multimeter, you will find that the value read out may differ significantly from the value indicated on the display of your frequency converter. This is due to the complexity of the signal.
Built-in filter
This is because the frequency controller outputs a pulse-like signal with a high switching frequency (more kHz) and a low control frequency. An RMS multimeter is going to calculate the RMS value of this signal but this is not the value as the motor experiences the signal. Because of the impedance of the motor, it turns this "high frequency" signal into a low frequency sinusoidal signal. You also observe this if you were to visualize the waveform of the current on a ScopeMeter. The Fluke 87-V has a built-in filter so that it displays the value as measured by the motor. Therefore, the Fluke 87-V becomes the tool of choice for every maintenance technician in industry.

Rittal - HUMMEL Cable glandsRead moreIf you want to protect your components properly against external influences, a strong enclosure alone is not enough. There are always cables running to and from your equipment, which is why you need a cable gland in addition to the enclosure for a complete solution for protecting your equipment. This ensures that the end of the cable running to your enclosure is securely attached. After all, your installation is only as good as its weakest link.
